Procedure

Ms. Smith begins the process of painting a portrait by meeting with the client, either in person or by telephone conversation.  Decisions will be made at this time about the size, composition, and style of portrait.  When no personal meeting can be scheduled, she will need an accurate description of eye and hair color.
The artist generally works from photographs because lengthy sittings are incompatible with the busy schedules of many clients.  A photo shoot will be arranged at a convenient time, during which the artist will have an opportunity to become further acquanted with the client.  Color studies will also be done at that time.  Proofs will be delivered to the client.  The client and artist will decide which photographs will be used.
In the event that the subject is deceased or a photographic session cannot be arranged, existing photographs may be substituted.  The artist requests both a 3x5 size print as well as an 11x14.
In choosing photographs as references, attention should be paid to their clarity, resemblance to the subject, dependence on a single light source, absence of toothy smiles and presence of strong skin tones.
Ms. Smith works on linen canvas using the finest oil paints to create portraits that are realistic and lifelike in every detail.  The client can expect the portrait to take approximately 2 months.
The artist is available to provide estimates and welcomes questions from the client at any stage of the project.
